A Stuck Ring Christmas Miracle in Carmel Indiana

CARMEL, Ind. — Santa wasn't the only person working on Christmas. First responders were also on the clock making sure we could celebrate safely.

One crew in Carmel got the call to help out a sixth grader in town visiting her family for the holiday and woke up with a dilemma.

"I got this ring, and I put it on the finger, and so when I fell asleep, I think it was too small, and it made my finger puff up, so then, I couldn't take it off," Sienna said.

Sienna and her family went to the Carmel Fire Department to get help getting the new present off of her finger.

After an ice bath and and some careful work by the first responders, Sienna's finger was finally freed.

"These rings are extremely difficult to get off," Paramedic Lt. Michael McNeely said.

McNeely said they're prepared with the proper tools for any time of the year.

"It's a specialized kit that we keep in one of our apparatus here in the department," McNeely said. "Luckily, we don't need a lot, but when you need it, you need it."

That holds true for all types of help, even on holidays.

"Any holiday that we work is pretty typical when it comes to the number of runs," McNeely said.

Here's a special thanks to those who work the holidays so that people like Sienna can keep their special day holly and jolly.
